POEM: I Don’t Have a Man

I Don't Have a Man

I don't have a man,
I have a stone,
strong as a cliff face
and easy to climb,
warm to lie on,
beneath the sunshine.

I don't have a man,
I have a fire,
warming my skin,
a bonfire bright
on a sandy beach,
glowing at night.

I don't have a man,
I have a river,
it flows around me,
trickles down my arms,
and my tears wash
away and are gone.

I don't have a man,
I have a wind,
a zephyr gust on
open blue skies,
a low whisper before
I open my eyes.

I don't have a man,
I have a tree,
protective green-leafed
branches overhead,
sturdy oak body
beneath me in bed.
